Dry needling in Flagstaff.

The knot that stretching, foam rolling, and time never touched can let go today. Always optional, always explained first.

Stubborn knots Chronic tightness Talk to a Specialist

What It Is

A thin needle. A precise release.

A trigger point is a tight knot buried inside a muscle, the kind stretching, foam rolling, and even massage often cannot reach. Those fibers are stuck in a low-grade contraction they cannot release on their own.

Dry needling goes straight into that knot with a thin, sterile needle. When it finds the spot, the muscle usually fires one quick twitch and lets go. That is the whole event, and most people feel the area loosen before they leave the room.

Nothing here gets sprung on you. You hear exactly what you will feel first, and this is always optional. Dr. Jordan Williams, DPT, Cert DN and Dr. Crystal Geer, DPT, CSCS, Cert DN are both certified in dry needling, and it is one step inside your plan, never the whole plan.

What It Helps

Where dry needling shines.

If a muscle feels locked no matter what you do, a trigger point is often the reason. You have been managing it instead: shorter rides, easier trails, ibuprofen before the yard work. That is what capable people do, and it is also how a knot becomes the thing you plan your weekend around. Point to what sounds like you.

Questions, Answered

Dry needling, no mystery.

Most people feel a quick pinch or a brief twitch as the needle finds the trigger point, then relief as the muscle lets go. It is brief, it is localized, and it is nothing like the ongoing ache you are probably picturing. You stay in control the whole time: we explain exactly what you will feel before anyone picks up a needle, and it is always optional.

No, and the difference is the mechanism. Acupuncture comes from a traditional Chinese medicine framework built around energy meridians. Dry needling is Western and neuromuscular: a licensed physical therapist targets one specific trigger point found in your movement evaluation, and the twitch that releases that muscle is the point of the treatment. One knot in one muscle, not a body-wide energy map.

Then we do not use them. Dry needling is always optional and it is never the whole plan: hands-on joint and soft tissue work, graded loading, and movement retraining carry plenty of the load on their own. If you do want it, Dr. Jordan Williams, DPT, Cert DN and Dr. Crystal Geer, DPT, CSCS, Cert DN are both certified in dry needling. Want to ask first? Call us at (928) 440-3106.
