Vasopneumatic compression in Flagstaff.

For swelling after surgery and legs cooked by training at altitude: timed compression cycles that help the area settle, so the work that fixes it can happen sooner.

What It Is

Compression cycles, timed.

Swelling and heavy, fatigued legs both slow recovery down. Fluid that sits in an area limits how far it will move, and legs that stay cooked never show up fresh to the next session.

Vasopneumatic compression uses NormaTec Boots to apply timed compression cycles to the limb, working in a sequence that helps the area move fluid and settle.

It is a recovery tool inside a plan, never the plan itself. We use it alongside graded loading and movement retraining, most often after surgery, after a fresh injury, or when training has left your legs flat. It comes up a lot with runners and cyclists. You train harder than most people realize, and recovery is part of that work, not a reward for finishing it.

What It Helps

Where vasopneumatic compression shines.

If swelling or heavy legs are the thing slowing you down, compression can take some of it off. Swelling you leave alone costs you motion, and lost motion is what makes the rest of the plan take longer.

The knee that stays puffy after surgery The ankle that swells by the evening The recent injury that is still swollen Legs that are flat from training The week after a long run or ride Muscle fatigue that will not clear

Questions, Answered

Vasopneumatic compression, no mystery.

No. You feel firm pressure moving up the limb as the compression cycles run, and most people find it comfortable. You are in control the whole time: we set the pressure with you, and it is always optional.

Most often people recovering from surgery, people with a recent injury that is still swollen, and runners and cyclists whose muscles are fatigued from training. Your licensed physical therapist will tell you whether it belongs in your plan.

No. Compression helps an area settle so you can do the work that actually changes things. The loading, the retraining, and the plan around them are still what get you back. Questions before then? Call us at (928) 440-3106.
